# Bridge Process

The cross-chain process primarily employs atomic swap methods. In the current first phase, it supports the circulation of ERC20 Tokens between Bitcoin Layer2 and Ethereum Layer2.

1. Locking assets on the source chain primarily refers to ERC20 Tokens on Bitcoin Layer2 and ERC20 Tokens mapped by BRC20 on Ethereum Layer2.
2. Minting assets on the target chain involves either locking ERC20 Tokens to mint mapped ERC20 Tokens or locking mapped ERC20 Tokens to mint Tokens.
3. Redeeming assets on the original chain entails locking equivalent tokens on the target chain and completing the transaction on the other chain.

Liquidity providers play a crucial role by offering BRC20 Tokens and ERC20 Tokens. These liquidity providers may include, but are not limited to, project developers, market makers, the community, and investors.<br>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://bridgem.gitbook.io/bridgem-1/protocol/bridge-process.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
